Ofeliia Yershova, 35 years old, examines the remains of a heavily damaged residential building in Kharkiv's northern Saltivka neighborhood. Ms. Yershova lived in the building most of her life and evacuated her mother just two days before what residents claim was a Russian airstrike on the building. Hundreds of residential and commercial buildings in Kharkiv, Ukraine's second largest city located approximately 45km from the Russian border, have been damaged and destroyed by Russia in its ongoing war against Ukraine. Sizeable regions of Kharkiv, a city of approximately 1.5 million people before Russia's full-scale invasion, are largely empty as many residents have fled the violence. Kharkiv, Ukraine, June 17, 2022
